A group of researchers from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory believe that baking soda may be able to literally save the world. The researchers are working on a technology involving 3D printed fabric embedded with sodium bicarbonate, which acts like a "sponge" to capture carbon dioxide emissions from power plants and other manufacturing facilities. The trapped carbon would then be buried, reducing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere at much less cost than current carbon capture technologies.
