In 1941, the HMAS Sydney and its 645 crewmen sank about 200 km off Australia's west coast. This happened when the ship was involved in an intense battle with the German raider ship Kormoran. In 2008, the ship was discovered, and a plan was unveiled to find out and reconstruct what happened in the ship's final moments. The project's research team took half a million photos and video footage, and fed it into a supercomputer that used pattern recognition software to stitch the wreckage together by generating 3D models. Now plans are underway to allow the public to eventually take a virtual 3D tour of the shipwreck without getting wet at all. This is great news for all of you shipwreck fans out there. It may soon be time to visit Down Under! Read more at 3DPrint.com: https://3dprint.com/134548/3d-virtual-tour-shipwreck/
