Researchers at Tel Aviv University have made impressive strides in bioprinting, with a recent paper just published regarding a new bionic patch. In ‘Engineered hybrid cardiac patches with multifunctional electronics for online monitoring and regulation of tissue function,’ the researchers outline their innovative new treatment which has the potential to make a huge difference for those with cardiac damage due to heart attacks and heart disease—as they wait for transplants. Doctors can, from afar, review what is going on inside the patient’s heart as well as activating medication. This is just the start, as researchers expect to be able to do much more with these patches, as well as seeing them translate into other health applications.
