The world of glass and using it for art, industry, and more is full of various industrial applications—and in ancient times they actually used to be held secret. Not so coming from the MIT Media Lab however, where Neri Oxma of the Mediated Matter Group and the MIT Glass Lab have teamed up with Dr Pierre-Thomas Brun from the math department, and they are showing what they’ve created, as well as outlining it in a recent paper. Together, they’ve made not only a two-part 3D printer which melts and extrudes glass for printing and forming hard constructions, but they’ve also along the way created some beautiful art forms which will on display this year at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
