SpaceX, the company behind the Dragon and Dragon 2 spacecrafts, recently subjected the Dragon 2 to a series of tests that proved an important result: the Dragon can hover. SpaceX, which has sent unmanned capsules to the International Space Station and back several times, is aiming to send a manned crew within the next few years. Ultimately, the company hopes to bring the Dragon 2's crews back down to Earth without the aid of parachutes, landing using only the 3D printed engines' own propulsion. The successful hover test in November was an important step in achieving propulsive landing, although there's still a long way to go.
