More than half a year after Nepal was struck by massive earthquakes, relief efforts still continue. Aid organization Field Ready takes a different approach than most. Using 3D printers and other technology, the organization provides sustainable solutions in the field, rather than relying on expensive, time-consuming and often ineffective supply chains. As a recent example, Field Ready 3D printed a pipe fitting to repair a leaky water pipe at a camp for people displaced by the quake. The part was printed onsite and took about two hours. The organization believes that if other agencies were to adopt similar tactics, billions of dollars a year could be saved.
