While 3D printed shoes used to be completely relegated to that of the world of artists and those designing for the runway, they are on their way to hitting the mainstream--and offering up happy feet to the world. While at first we followed stories on one designer after another making crazy high heels, as well as affordable but sort of kooky-looking designs, now we are seeing the big companies like New Balance, Adidas, and Nike getting very, very serious about the 3D printing market. New Balance seems to be the forerunner in the race, with running shoes featuring 3D printed midsoles to be on display at CES in January, and available for limited sale to Bostonians by April.
