Dr. Patrick Dixon is bored with 3D printing, bitcoin, robotics, the Internet of Things--and even smartphones. While the general public is far too busy buying into what he sees as just media hype, Dixon wants everyone to come back down to earth and realize that no, we probably aren’t going to have robots working as our personal assistants, we probably aren’t going to be using bitcoin to purchase everything, and we really might not need the internet to run the goings-on in our home refrigerators. What Dixon thinks innovators should focus on is divergence--rather than convergence. Employing the concept that convergence creates too much conformity and ultimately, decay rather than growth in the market, Dixon hopes people can see the light and go the route of the different, the inimitable, and focus on really changing lives rather than just creating price wars.
