A Portuguese engineer named João Duarte designed and built his own simplified ion thruster to demonstrate the science behind the thruster. He designed his thruster in Tinkercad and combined the 3D printable components with some copper tubing, copper plated nails, a few bits of wire and a high voltage power source. The entire thing is controlled by pressing a bright red emergency button that fires up the thruster and starts the flow of air.
