A French meteorologist living on the remote islands near Réunion recently underwent surgery to repair orbital damage done to his eye socket during a bout with cancer decades ago. While nothing was able to repair the damage so many years ago, today, with the progressive technology of digital design and 3D printing, a surgeon at the University Hospital of La Réunion was able to work with engineers at OBL, a company owned by Materialise. Together, they decided on a 3D printed, patient-specific mini plate system that was able to solve all of the painful issues the patient was experiencing.
