Researchers in the Michigan Tech Open Sustainability Technology (MOST) Lab decided to tackle the issue of 3D metal printing and the use of substrates which basically have to be broken apart and ‘sacrificed’ in each use due to such strong adhesion. Experimenting with different samples, coatings, and chemicals the researchers were able to create re-usable substrates in the gas metal arc weld metal 3D printing arena that are highly affordable, reduce 3D printing post-processing, and are easier on the environment.
