A man in China is now cancer free thanks to a breakthrough surgery in Beijing China. With recurring cancer of his sacrum, doctors elected complete removal of the bone. However, without the sacrum the patient would have been left severely disabled. Doctors came up with an idea though. They would 3D print a titanium replica of the bone for implantation. The 3D printed sacral prosthesis was printed in metal and featured pores so that bone could grow around and within it. The surgery was a success.
