UK-based 'maker' and dad Jon Harrop has been looking to get his 7-year-old son, Alex, involved in working together to make and discover new things. Harrop told us about his current tool holdings, which he's teaching his son about, including an Ultimaker 2 3D printer and a Dremel tool. The unplanned addition of a 50mm circular saw attachment for his Dremel led to an all-new design creation, as Harrop set about making his own (not 100% 3D printed) mini table saw using OpenSCAD and digital Vernier calipers to measure and model his design--which, Harrop told us, works "amazingly well" for cutting up to 6mm plywood. He's also made the design available on Thingiverse so others can try it out.
