When it comes to strength, carbon fibers have been the reinforcing material of choice for 3D printing resins. But the high cost and the dependency of the fibers on petroleum led researchers at ORNL to seek more economical alternatives. Now Theodora Retsina, the CEO of American Process Inc., says nanocellulose can boost the performance of plastics in an environmentally friendly way. Retsina says the nanomaterial promises significant advantages over carbon fiber while remaining strong and lightweight and inexpensive to produce. The material is already in production and API calls it BioPlus. You can read the whole story here: http://3dprint.com/69012/american-pr...or-3d-printing
