Artist Tania Larssen was searching for a way to connect with the tools used by her Gwich'in ancestors in the preparation of caribou, a staple element in traditional life. Her mother didn't have any of the family's tools to pass to her daughter and so Larssen went in search of her own. She was able to scan the tools in the collection at the Smithsonian Museum and to then recreate the tools on her own using a 3D printer. In this way, she has been able to use cutting edge technology to connect herself with her people and their traditions.
