A startup called Faraday Motion is developing a new, customizable, 3D printable electric skateboard that can be controlled using the motion sensor on a smart phone. The technology being developed for the skateboard has applications that can easily be adapted to an entire array of mobility assistance devices beyond skateboards. The device was prototyped using Autodesk 123D Design and most of the components were printed on a Ultimaker 2 3D printer.
