Medical professionals at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital are operating on the cutting edge, literally, with the use of 3D printed models. After being faced with the challenge of treating two-year-old Lily Hall of Whitesburg, KY, Dr.Thomas Sitzman became resourceful in finding the best way to treat and operate on the child, suffering from a rare skin disorder. Collaborating with a technical engineer at the hospital, they were able to create a 3D model that worked as a template both before and during surgery for successfully making incisions and moving the toddler’s skin from one place to another on her scalp and face.
