Students' 3D Printed Rocket Engine Hits Kickstarter for Funding
Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, or SEDS for short, are an undergraduate student group at the University of California, San Diego who designed, printed and tested a 3D printed rocket engine. Now they say the latest project, the Vulcan-1 rocket body, will use a new engine they designed and will launch in June. The students are looking for funds on Kickstarter to extend their record as the holders for highest flight of a rocket powered by a 3D printed engine and build the next generation of their rocket. They say the Vulcan-1 Rocket Body will be capable of achieving an altitude of 10,000 feet with its liquid fueled technology which develops 750lbs. of thrust.
