The use of 3D printing is enhancing the quality of life across the world -- as one man, named Mr. Liu, now knows quite well. As it turned out, Liu discovered that his leg pain was due not just to a small cyst as he'd first been informed, but actually caused by a significant tumor attached to his pelvic bone. Dr. Dong Lele, at First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College, was there to the rescue, not only discovering the tumor, but also the solution. While traditional treatments would have been terribly risky, due to the tumor's closeness to blood vessels and nerves, Dr. Lele teamed up with Xi'an Jiatong University's State Key Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems Engineering to use 3D printing to create a replica of the area, and then to 3D print a titanium prosthesis matching Liu's anatomy. Liu is now recovering well from the March operation. For details about the intricate procedure, check out the full article: http://3dprint.com/55566/3d-printed-titanium-pelvic/
