The 3D Printed Thermal Reactive 'MOOD Coaster'

Mood rings have been a hit since their introduction in 1975, and based on a similar concept to that popular jewelry that told body temperature rather than mood, artist Noah Hornberger has created the MOOD Coaster. Inspired by the maker's rapidly cooling coffee, the MOOD Coaster is temperature-sensitive and will relay a color based on the warmth (or coolness) of the object placed on it. The coaster is mostly 3D printed, but does require an Arduino brain, LEDs for the lighting, and a thermistor to sense the temperature. Hornberger has submitted his design to the Countertop Challenge from MakerBot and FirstBuild.
