A team of Chinese orthopedic surgeons and 3D printing technicians have used the technology to create a model of a patient's shoulder to help them plan for repairing the horrifically damaged joint. They call it "floating shoulder," and it's an injury so severe that it often results in death. To help them plan for the location of the metallic supports which would repair the 18-year-old car accident victim's shoulder, the doctors used an FDM printed to build a model of the damaged area.
