Most current CAD software? Where's SpaceClaim?
Started as a hobby about two and a half years ago with a Printrbot Simple Metal. Printed whatever caught my fancy mostly found on Thingiverse back then. I began to get more and more requests for...
DesignSpark. Best free CAD out there. IMHO
DesignSpark. Free, easy, excellent.
True but if you've ever used Solidworks, SpaceClaim, DesignSpark or even Sketchup, Blender is a joke for CAD at least in the mechanical sense. If you have the coin to spend SpaceClaim can't be beat....
Guess it really depends on what you're after. I work a lot with STL's, scan data and reverse engineering in a "CAD" environment. Free tools just can't pull that off.
I use SpaceClaim and it's awesome. Doesn't come cheap though like most higher end packages.
I started with a Printerbot Simple Metal. Great little printer btw. Then moved to a Makergear M2 and never looked back. If I ever add a 3rd printer it will be another M2. The Printrbot is still in...
I'd love to have Spaceclaim. Been using DesignSpark for a while now. Why do they have to make all these packages so damned expensive!
Get a Printrbot Simple Metal
Never seen the SLS-3 but as far as I know the only difference is the newer CCD and believe me, they charge a mega premium for their camera and I don't see the value in it personally.
I bought the David 4 software, their calibration panels, purchased the same projector they use K132, bought my own industrial CCD camera (pretty much the same one they use), used a v-slot linear...
So they want another $100 to fix a hot end that was junk from the start on an already $3k printer. Hum...
This is another interesting one I've been looking at.

DesignSpark.
Old thread but I'll throw in a new pic. Moved to our new house and got my own 3D room. :)

Glad I'm not a zebrafish embryo. But it's not surprising that someone has come up with a study that says 3D printed parts are toxic. Gives them something else to go after.
Just having a little fun with the SLS-2.
What file types does their software output? .obj? Also, can you scan part of an object and still output a mesh / fused file or does it have to be a closed 360 scan?
I offer scanning as a service along with 3D printing. Most of my clients want scans for reverse engineering. For me personally I do a pretty wide range of things just for fun.
With a little work and research you can get a David system close to a grand. $500 for the software, $350 for the projector, 3D print the mounts, us a v-slot rail, cheap tri-pod and you are almost...
The David SLS-2 is a much more proven and reliable product.
In terms of an FDM printer which most people have, I'd say speed and overhangs are the major drawback to running a business with that type of printer. I do quite a few jobs and my major barrier is...
I still don't get why you post this trash. Even the ads displayed at the bottom of those posts are trash. If you guys don't clean this site up I'm out. I'm here for 3D printing related news not...
