As the holiday season fast approaches, Christmas trees are popping up in living rooms around the world, decorated with the usual Santa, snowman, snowflake, and ball ornaments... though others take a more unique approach to their tree decor. Pediatrician Christopher Kelly, who works at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London and is working on a PhD at Evelina Children's Hospital, is studying brain development. Kelly has a scan of his own brain, taken during a research project, and used FreeSurfer software to turn the 3D image into a 3D model. He then sent the STL file to 3DPrintUK to be 3D printed using SLS technology. His tree is now ornamented with tiny, perfect replicas of his own brain.
