Researchers Look at Sustainability Via 3D Printing: Use Printed Glasses as Example

Researchers recently published a paper in Challenges in Sustainability regarding the potential 3D printing has to offer for sustainability in developing and impoverished countries. Using self-adjusting, 3D printed refractive glasses as an example, the authors of the paper established that with the glasses as an example, sustainability and actually receiving eyecare through that method was much more affordable and realistic as a goal than expecting it to happen through centralized manufacturing. With open-source design and the RepRap 3D printer which can be created through 3D printed parts, they foresaw glasses being 3D printed and fully customized for under one dollar per pair.
