Not all urban apartments are well-designed or well-lit, but in cities like New York, you have to take what you can get and be prepared to get creative. This is exactly what Anthony Koithra did when he designed and 3D printed his own cables and brackets -- making a pulley-based lighting system for his apartment that resembles fishing poles. Koithra solved the problem of his high ceilings and poorly placed electrical outlets easily enough. All it took was some 3D printing ingenuity and some additional parts, and he solved his lighting problems for good.
