Formlabs Shows Us How to Add Screw Thread to 3D Prints

A common issue among those who create 3D printed objects, including companies that frequently use additive manufacturing for rapid prototyping, is that traditional metal threads to connect them are difficult to add to 3D printed plastics. Many 3D printed objects needing to have components joined together utilize a character key method to join them, but Formlabs has been exploring different methods of integrating metal threading into 3D printed plastic pieces. The best option they've discovered is to print a pocket for metal threads to be inserted. Check out details on the other two suggested methods, as well as some warnings and an STL download, in the full article: http://3dprint.com/27032/metal-threading-in-3d-prints/

    well yeah.

Adding a hexagonal hole to seat a nut is pretty standard practice And I'm guessing has been since 3d printing was invented.

I've used that. Also made holes for wood screws.
Large threads work well in plastic as well.

So basically form labs have done nothing new, just looking for free advertising :-)
