The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) has successfully flown an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) made with largely 3D printed components. Following a prototype glider model UAV announced in March 2014, by September the AMRC was field testing a UAV made with electric ducted fan engines that could fly on its own power. With components largely printed on a Stratasys Fortus fused deposition modeling (FDM) machine, the UAV represents a jump forward in design and rapid manufacturing technology.
