When it comes to oil and gas, companies are always trying to find ways to make the process of drilling and fracking more efficient, safer and more affordable. Geologists are now 3D printing the microcopic pores of rocks, scaled up in such a way that they can test how these rocks will crack and how liquid will flow through them when hydraulic fracturing takes place. When further developed, they hope this will make the process of fracking (hydraulic fracturing) more efficient, easier and more affordable. It should also help prevent some of the problems with fracking, such as potential causing of earthquakes, destroying of water reserves, and release of greenhouse gases.
