    Could Modified Bees Be The 3D Printers of the Future

    Imagine bees which could spew out concrete-like material instead of honey. Two men have come up with a scenario they think would be possible to genetically alter bees to produce concrete instead of honey. Those bees could then be used to 3D print in concrete, making art, designs, and even fixing buildings in need of repairs. The full story can be found here: http://3dprint.com/10428/bees-3d-printers/

    I would much rather see this done with a more readily controlled insect than bees, like silkworms for instance. Considering the first (and last) historical attempt to mofify the honeybee was an unqualified disaster.

    Also, if they are making concrete instead of honey, what the heck do they turn to for feeding their young? That honey making function is kind of essential to their survival.
