Nestle Wants to Create a Star Trek Replicator

Nestle, the multi-billion dollar company headquartered in Switzerland is actually looking to create a machine which can materialize customized food. Although they admit that such technology is still many years away, they have a team of 15 researchers and scientists working on a secret project code-named 'Iron Man', which looks to create a machine which can create meals for people with custom nutrition dependent on their needs. More details can be found here: http://3dprint.com/7142/star-trek-replicator-nestle/

What do you think? Will they succeed? How far off are we to an actual food synthesizer or replicator like we see in Star Trek? Opinions?

What they're trying to make with their machine is a customized vitamin mix intended to balance theri nutrition on a day-to-day basis. Basically, it mixes a bunch of pre-existing powders to make various variants of Soylant. Less like a replecator, and more like a health food version of the Coca Cola Freestyle machines. (which granted are pretty neat)

The problem they have is the same one that the Soylant people do: How do you even know what a person's body needs? If you just ask people, they'll probably either answer 'pie' or 'beer' far more often than is healthy for anyone.

Much like with the flying car, technology can advance quickly, but it has to wait for consumers to become responsible enough to use it.
