Mesostructured Material by Andreas Bastian

A man by the name of Andreas Bastian, recently talked with me at length about an incredible innovative technology he has been working on. He can basically print out bendable objects using PLA and other stiff materials on 3D Printers. He refers to these objects as mesostructured materials, and they are quite fascinating indeed.

I indeed fell in love with the look of this structure.

Now look what happens when you take an already flexible design and print it with Filaflex from Recreus, it becomes very cloth-like.

Very interesting stuff, especially when printed in already flexible material. I've got to wonder though if it's comfortable at all to hold or handle, it looks like a lot of little pinch points if made with conventional plastics.

If it's not as pinchy as it looks, it might be a good 'soft' component of 3D printed furnature, as long as there is a rigid frame around it to keep the edges from breaking off.
