Riddell, the manufacturer of football helmets, is taking protection to a new level with 3D scanning. In an attempt to continue preventing serious head injuries on the field, the sports gear company is now making personalized helmets for NFL players. Their heads are scanned in less than five minutes, with the data being transmitted to Riddell’s proprietary software. Helmets are then made with eight-pad custom linings made of polyurethane which cushion the head almost like memory foam. The helmets are meant to last each player for the lifetime of their careers.
