Scientists and engineers who work at Wright Patterson Air Force Base at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) are constantly researching and working with new and innovative technologies, like additive manufacturing. According to its website, the AFRL's Materials and Manufacturing Directorate works on "developing materials, processes, and advanced manufacturing technologies" for spacecraft, aircraft, rockets, and several ground-based systems. The Air Force, and specifically scientists with the directorate, are continuing to explore additive manufacturing, evaluating its challenges and opportunities.
