Researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) have begun 3D printing extremely realistic medical models for training purposes. These 3D models are made from molds that are then injected with hydrogels that are eerily similar to that of the texture—and color—of human tissue. These models, meant to aid both surgeons and students, are so realistic that they even bleed when cut into. This is expected to allow for much greater progress in procedures, offering a much more effective alternative to training as well as surgical guides.
