It appears that children (and excited parents too) will have to wait another year for the Mattel ThingMaker 3D printer to come out. The budget 3D printer (said to retail at $300) was on display earlier in the year at the New York Toy Fair, and said to be in rather basic form. This additional year will perhaps give the toy retailer sufficient time to spruce the machine up a bit more to compete in a fierce marketplace. The ThingMaker allows kids to take 3D printable templates and then customize figures however they would like, with short print times, varying from 30 minutes to six hours.
