Researcher Working to 3D Scan 25,000 Fish Species

Dr. Adam Summers, Professor of Biology and Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at University of Washington, began scanning fish specimens back in 2000 with the help of hospital CT scanners. With a dream of completing scans of every one of the approximately 25,000 fish species, he realized he needed a more cost- and time-efficient manner for his project. It's nice that he's doing this, but when I tracked down the data at the Open Science Framework, it's in the form of innumerable photos in BMP format. Is there a plan to release them in a more accessible format, like STL, OBJ or PLY? Failing that, does anyone know of an automatic tool that can load these slices and compile them into complete 3D objects?
