In space, it’s all about the 3D printed wrenches. Fixing and maintaining things is a serious issue there, so it’s no wonder that fabricating this basic tool has been important to astronauts at the ISS. With the advent of a more commercial and expanded 3D printer sent to the ISS by Made In Space several months ago, the official launch of the Additive Manufacturing Facility at the ISS has been marked, and also in partnership with Lowe’s. While the wrench is a perfect display of how we can begin to explore the future success of self-sustainability in space, it also marks the beginning of a true commercial 3D printing lab allowing for companies to test in conditions they were never before privy to.
