NOAA had a major upgrade last year, and now they are looking at some new ones throughout the spring and summer, including that of 4D models and maps which enter that fourth dimension through the demonstration of time. You may have noticed that forecasts are more accurate lately, as well as offering more hourly predictions that are right on target. All of these new improvements are building upon the Global Forecast System (GFS) which has been able to double its resolution, resulting in better forecasts for the public.
