    Carnegie Mellon University Finds Flaws with 3D Printed Titanium

    A research team from Carnegie Mellon University has found fatal flaws with 3D printed titanium, using deep X-rays to reveal a large and randomly distributed amount of porosity in the material. Although this research shouldn’t affect titanium implants made for medical applications, it is especially alarming for the aerospace industry, which often uses the material for mission critical components.     no doubt someone will come up with a post processing method to sort it out at some point.

    But given that end use parts that are in use would have been tested to hell and back without failure.

    Maybe a lot of fuss about nothing.

    carnegie Mellon - am I the only one who finds that funny ?
