When Asem Hasna lost his leg in the Syrian conflict, he nearly also lost his life. Having been lucky enough to survive would have been enough to grant him a place in the news, but his participation in a joint Red Cross and State Department program training Syrians as prosthetic technicians has given us an even greater story. Hasma is currently awaiting acceptance of his asylum papers in Germany, but in the meantime he has developed a series of innovative prosthetic devices created using 3D printing.
