The Open Source BioMedical Initiative, an Italian organization dedicated to the development of inexpensive, open-source prosthetics and other 3D printed biomedical devices, recently partnered with Crowd4Africa, a group of students who developed a "mini factory" for the purpose of 3D printing prosthetics and replacement parts with recycled plastic. Thanks to the efforts of the two organizations, several 3D printers and prosthetic hands will be delivered to hospitals in Africa, an effort that was blessed by no less than the Pope himself.
