In an effort to appeal to a younger generation of consumers--the so-called millennials--Macy’s has converted the lower level of its flagship Herald Square store into an exhilarating, multisensory, and high-tech shopping experience. The 53,000-square-foot basement they’ve dubbed “One Below” features a selfie wall, options for personalizing purchases, for 3D printing jewelry, iPhone cases, and even creating 3D printed selfies. Macy’s regards One Below as a kind of experiment that will help them reorient their other 800 or so stores to appeal to younger shoppers.
