    Aprecia's 3D Printed Melting Drugs

Approximately 50% of people who have been prescribed medication for the treatment of a condition fail to complete or continue their prescribed regimen. This non-adherence to prescriptions has enormous economic impacts that are calculated to continue to rise. One of the reasons for non-adherence is the difficulty in swallowing or in dosing a particular pill. In an effort to increase rates of adherence, Aprecia Pharmaceuticals is working to develop a fast-melting 3D printed pill. More details on these initiatives can be found here: http://3dprint.com/83549/3d-print-medicine-aprecia

Aprecia Pharmaceuticals has announced the receipt of FDA approval for the production of a fast dissolving anti-seizure medication currently only available in tablet form. Set for release at the beginning of 2016, this 3D printed pill dissolves with a sip of liquid allowing for dosages as high as 1,000 milligrams to be swallowed with the ease of a liquid. Currently only available for levetiracetam, Aprecia is working to create a variety of medications that would be available in this format as a way to increase patient adherence to prescription medicine regimens. http://3dprint.com/86534/3d-printed-zipdose-fda/
