Peter Mitchell, the Director of Seatricity, says the Oceanus 2 is the first of some 60 devices planned as part of a 10MW, grid-connected wave energy generating system which will be deployment 10 miles off the coast of Hayle, Cornwall. The system is built of 10-meter-diameter floating rings that use cross tubes which travel up and down with the waves to operate a pump used to pressurize sea water. The pumps drive hydroelectric turbines to produce electricity. The company are now planning to spend a week this month tank-testing a 3D printed model of the Oceanus 2 device in Ireland.
