Professor Aaron Dollar. Raymond R. Ma and Dr. Lael Odhner of Yale University are leading a project they call OpenHand to spur innovation in the development of robotic hands which are both robust and open-source in their design. The researchers say the OpenHand project sprung from work done in conjunction with Harvard University and was based on commercial designs for such robotic hands. Using hobby servos and what they call Hybrid Deposition Manufacturing, the team at Yale plan to refine their designs, and they've already made them available to developers for further refinement.
