Researchers at the University of Tokyo have built a "fever alarm armband" which monitors the vital signs of hospital patients using 3D inkjet printing. The flexible, self-and-solar-powered wearable device is an armband which trips an alarm if a patient's temperature climbs too high. The researchers say the flexible organic components developed for their device will also be applicable to a variety of wearable devices and add that an amorphous silicon solar panel, a piezoelectric speaker, a temperature sensor and a power supply circuit were all created with organic components.
