Scientists and hobbyists are using 3D printing to replicate items from the past to help us better understand the present and the future. From museum staffers to businesspeople, the adopters of the technology are finding novel applications of 3D printing items aimed at research and teaching uses. Alex Clarke, a geologist, is now trying to raise funds through Kickstarter for his PaleoPrint project. Clarke says PaleoPrint will eventually find markets in the educational and oil and gas fields.
