Twins Knatalye Hope and Adeline Faith were one in a million -- well, one in 200,000. The twins were born conjoined, attached from their chests down to their pelvic areas. From before their birth, an operation had been planned at Texas Children's Hospital to surgically separate them, allowing them to lead healthy, individual lives. The 10-month-old twins were operated on last week at Texas Children's by a huge team -- nearly 30 professionals from 13 medical specialties -- over the course of a total of 26 hours. A 3D printed model of the girls' abdomens, including their organs and even blood vessels, allowed the medical team to plan everything about the surgery in great detail. The operation was a success, and the girls are now recovering. They are destined for follow-up procedures, including more surgeries, but the biggest hurdle in their odyssey has now been overcome.
