Ricardo Ferrer noticed that in his hometown, Hannover, Germany, most merchants don't accept credit cards due to the high service fees involved. So Ferrer decided he's get a team together to try and make an end run around bankers by creating a POS terminal which would accept the latest in digital currency - Bitcoin. The company he and his partners created, called PEY, uses older phone hardware and 3D printing to let customers pay for their goods and services without fees of any kind.
