Will there every be a RepRap Scanner?

What do you guys think? I'd love to see an open source 3D Scanner. I wonder why we don't see a RepRap scanner yet.

I think we will eventually see a scanner, just not sure when. It makes perfect sense to me. However there really isn't as much customization with a 3D Scanner, so less need for something like this being Open source.

3D scanning is a lot tougher than 3D printing. Transparent and shiny surfaces even create problems for commercial 3D scanners.

Technically speaking, I don't think the hardware setup is a big issue. It's the software that will be a bear to create.
